It’s Saturday. Let’s not talk about soccer today, I never liked the game anyways. Let’s have a look at what’s going on in tech.
I believe that warfare will change drastically in the next few years and we can see that already in the way the war in Ukraine has been fought the last two years. There will be positive implications, but only for the side that has better access to state of the art tech - so the innovation cycles with which armies operate will have to change drastically. This will require massive amounts of money and lots of risk-taking. Also, read why the Kindle is a hot gadget all of a sudden, how old Ma Bell built it’s phone network, why some people think that cloud computing will be in decline. And then scroll through an amazing display of tech and power on gigantic timeline.
Enjoy.
A.I. Begins Ushering In an Age of Killer Robots
Hopefully our killer robots will be better than theirs. This will dramatically change warfare.
How the Kindle Became a Must-Have Accessory (Again)
I’m such a trendsetter. Honestly, I love my kindle and all the access to books it provides. I’m aware of all the downsides, but I think this is still such a wonderful device.
Building the Bell System
This is quite fascinating. I always have been interested in how these large-scale networks were built and operated back in the days.
Are rainy days ahead for cloud computing?
David Heinemeier Hansson is always good for a headline as he likes taking a contrarian viewpoint. I do not think that cloud computing will be challenged by on premise hosting any time soon. Most companies understand that they are paying the price for somebody handling the growing complexity of computing.
A Genealogy of Technology and Power Since 1500
And now for something completely different. It helps to have a huge screen when accessing this. Very cool.
That’s all for now! Thanks for reading! If you missed last week’s Five Things Tech, you can find it here:
