Heya,
unfortunately my runcation here in Croatia is over, but I did get some nice runs in on the trails and on the roads. 80 kilometers is a fine accomplishment for me, but I’d love to stay a week longer and run more. I’m still no mountain goat, but with just a bit of practice those runs up the hill behind the house felt a bit easier every time.
What I like about the coast here: I can run along the waterfront or just go up as high as 650m or so, and it’s all in the same town. Awesome. Also, I can highly recommend running along the Marjan peninsula in Split, so amazing.
Yes, I don’t want to leave, there are still so many peaks I wanted to run up to.
But now, please read about running. I put together five articles for you :)
Inside the race to make the world’s fastest running shoes
This is something I find fascinating. Not that I’m in the market for a supershoe, but of course I assume that even more of this tech will trickle down and benefit older and slower runners like myself.
What makes an athletics track fast?
I never really thought about the track itself playing a role when runners try to achieve their best times. Also, I didn’t know that there was a company in Italy that installed all the really good tracks.
Strava peaks and plateaus
“Nothing beats a consistent build, prioritizing aerobic volume, staying within your intensity limits. Spiking a high volume week just to bank the training doesn’t result in fitness that can be drawn upon on race day. Quite the opposite in fact.” -
points out what we need to focus on when building up training volume. I understand the theory, but then reality with family and job and whatnot kicks in and I’m back to a big week following a week with a lot less running, followed by a big week, and so on.How to Handle Running in the Heat
The last two weeks I got to run in some heat and while I tried to run early in the morning, it was still hotter than the midday summer heat I’m used to back in Hamburg.
has some good ideas on how to cope with the heat and enjoy running in the summer.Thick Thighs Run Club is breaking down barriers in a fitness-obsessed city
As run clubs are gaining traction all over the (Western) world and the running community grows, it also gets more inclusive. I like this a lot as I’m happy for each and everyone who gets to start running and likes doing it.
If you missed last week’s edition, you can read it here:
Now, go running!
