Five Things AI: Apple, Weather, Safety, Customer Service, Calorie Tracker
Wow, it's Friday again! Time to take a look at five articles about AI!
Hi and welcome back to Five Things AI! My name is Nico Lumma and every week I like to share five interesting articles about AI with you. So instead of researching for hours on the web, just read these five articles here and you are all set. As I’m saving you a couple of hours every week, I’d really appreciate it if you could go paid and spend the equivalent of one large café latte on this newsletter.
This week’s big topic is the Apple Developer Event next week. Apparently we will see a big announcement around Apple and OpenAI. The other big topic is NVIDIA, which is now worth more than 3 Trillion Dollars, which is pretty amazing for a company that used to be known for producing graphic cards for gamers. In fact, when I bought my first NVIDA graphics card, people thought I was crazy as I was buying from the challenger brand. Now I think I should have bought shares instead of spending my time playing Quake2. Oh, those were the days…
Anyhow, here’s my roundup of the five most interesting and useful articles on the development of AI, at least in my humble opinion.
Enjoy! And please forward this email to all your friends and colleagues! Thanks!
Apple Made Once-Unlikely Deal With Sam Altman to Catch Up in AI
So the big plan is that Siri could be finally doing what Apple promised years ago, but failed to deliver. It’s really interesting how it feels that Apple totally missed the recent AI developments. Apple was never really the early adopter, but rather the fast follower who got everything right after everybody else was exhausted from trying to figure something out.
No physics? No problem. AI weather forecasting is already making huge strides.
Did you think that weather forecast innovation was a thing? I’m amazed by this, but apparently AI can be used to build much better models that can generate very accurate forecasts. This will probably come in handy in the next years when we will get more extreme weather due to climate change.
AI safety bill driven by fears Trump would reverse efforts to rein in technology
“Wiener’s plan is particularly interesting and unique; it tackles the most dangerous AI safety risks rather than focusing on specific issues like algorithmic bias or deepfakes in other bills. But it’s difficult to persuade companies to agree with these measures when these scenarios are still hypothetical; it’s not clear if or when the technology will become powerful enough to endanger human lives at scale.” - so the fear of Trump is actually advancing an AI safety bill that is long overdue.
How AI Can Revolutionize Customer Service for SMEs: Unlocking New Efficiencies
is totally spot on: AI can unlock new efficiencies in customer service. In my work with my clients, this is the number one topic at the moment. AI to watch every spoonful you eat and calculate your calorie consumption
Is this scary or just brilliant? I’d love to try it out as I’d really like to have better data about my eating habits. Also, I’m too lazy to use a calorie tracker and I assume I’d lie too often about my eating habits… so I guess this would be very practical for me.
