Five Things: Ukraine, Tech Layoffs, Cleantech, Being Messy, Hollywood UI
If you read this now, you'll be a lot smarter afterwards. Trust me.
The war in the Ukraine has been going on now for a year. In Germany a bunch of lunatics staged a protest in Berlin demanding peace talks now and basically claiming that it was the West’s fault that Russia attacked Ukraine. It’s insane that so many people actually believe Russian propaganda. Hopefully Western democracies will learn this one big lesson: we need to defend our liberal societies against enemies from within and from outside. We need to be a lot smarter about this and also a lot tougher.
No, this email has not been created by an AI, I am still doing this personally every week. Also, I do read all the articles I share here and I curate them because I hope to provide some value to you, my loyal readers. As the number of subscribers of the newsletter keeps on growing, I will do my best to supply you with five interesting and hopefully surprising articles that you haven’t read yet every Sunday!
The Secret Weapons of Ukraine
The Russian attack on Ukraine started a year ago and many experts believed that Ukraine would be overrun by Russian troops in a matter of days or weeks. It’s really amazing how civilians do what they can to help the Ukrainian troops to defend their country. (Esquire)
Tech Layoffs Are Feeding a New Startup Surge
The overheating of Big Tech was going to come and when the layoffs came, they were massive. And of course it easy to talk about crisis and opportunity when you’re not directly effected, but when so many smart and savvy people get laid of, a lot of them will start new companies and hire from among those being recently laid off. (Wired)
The US plan to become the world’s cleantech superpower
Currently there’s a big discussion about the IRA here in Europe as it focuses on manufacturing in the USA. I think this is a huge opportunity for jobs in the US and for our climate. I’m also sure that the EU and the USA will come up with clever ways to have subsidies in both territories to move faster on cleantech. (Ars Technica)
Why being messy is good for you
Awesome. Finally, my family is riding the wave and we’re part of a new trend. And we have plenty of years of experience! Maybe I should create an online course or give a TED talk? (BBC)
Why all of Hollywood UI looks the same
This is not a question I had ever asked myself, but it is an interesting read - good to see an UX/UI expert applying lots of available knowledge to this topic! I will be able to point this out during the next movie night with my family and everybody will be thrilled! Pass the popcorn! (UX Collective)
