Five Things: Thinking, TikTok, Afterlife, EV, Reading
Grab your coffee, sit down and read these articles. It will make your Sunday so much better.
Hi and welcome back to Five Things! If you don’t remember why you subscribed or just somehow got here: my name is Nico Lumma, I read a lot online and I like to share the five most interesting articles with you, my esteemed readers. If you haven’t subscribed yet or if you finally decided to go paid, here’s a handy button to do just that.
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Where where we? Right. Five articles for you to read. Just in case you want to know how and where I find those articles: honestly. I don’t know. There is no real structure, there is just some flow, and somehow I end up reading interesting stuff in some weird and remote corners of the interweb, and sometimes I just find good stuff in my daily paper, the New York Times. There is no structured process, which is probably a surprise for people who know me…
Enjoy!
The Space Of Possible Minds
“The journey from the place where self-reflective thought began is both outward into the universe and inward into ourselves, because as with any act of profound creation, we learn as much about us as about the systems we create.” - let’s start with some light reading, shall we?
Love, Hate or Fear It: TikTok Has Changed America
I still remember the good old days when our oldest daughter was posting dance moves on musical.ly and everything was innocent, and now we have TikTok and the feeling is growing on us that young people get influenced in lots of negative ways.
Don’t Bleed on the Artwork: Notes from the Afterlife
“At the frame shop there is so much beauty, it can’t be real. Maybe this is the afterlife, I think. Or purgatory.” - just a beautiful text about work, art and life.
EVs Aren’t Failing, They’re Just Following the Adoption Cycle
I’m usually a very early adopter, but I was slow in going electric, basically because I need a car big enough to fit six people and a dog. Anyhow, I just went from diesel to full EV for 2 months and then to hybrid and while the Volvo XC90 is a really nice car, I miss the feeling of driving an EV. The adoption curve will go up again quickly, I’m very certain of that.
What Phones Are Doing to Reading
I read my books on my kindle and my iPhone, which is really convenient. I also get too easily distracted and then get sucked into doing other stuff on the iPhone, which is rather inconvenient for getting any reading done.
That’s it. Have a great Sunday! If you missed last Sunday’s edition of Five Things, have a look here:
