Hello and welcome back to Five Things Tech!
This week’s edition of Five Things AI is all about perception, about potential, about opportunities, about innovation and about moonshots. Sounds vague? Well, I want you to read on. And you should. I picked some interesting stories again for you to read.
Please enjoy Five Things Tech!
Technology is probably changing us for the worse—or so we always think
When I was a kid I had a Commodore C64 and my parents didn’t like it very much that I spent so much time on it. Flash forward to now and I have kids who spend too much time on their devices. Maybe we just find a way to adjust to tech and make it use for us.
Better Tools, Bigger Companies
makes a strong argument for big advances in tech- The groundwork has been done and now the tech industry could tackle newer and bigger problems. How startups beat incumbents
“The way a startup wins, is to do things that incumbents cannot or will not do.” - and there are plenty of opportunities for startups to create new products customers want.
How Apple Fell From the Tree
“The corporation that could once transform both the worlds of advertising and of computing with a “Think Different” campaign is now the one playing catchup with the times, trying to emulate everyone else who once aimed to emulate Apple, and realizing it can no longer depend on squeezing profit from the locked intra-Apple hard- and software ecosystem it steadily built through its most exciting inventions.” - I think it is a bit premature to declare that Apple is going downhill as I assume that it is not that easy to replicate the success of the iPhone. Apple has ressources and time, it will figure out a way forward.
Google’s Moonshot Factory Falls Back Down to Earth
This sucks. Google was doing extremely cool stuff and I always thought that it was an outstanding idea to attract lots of great talent to work on weird stuff.
That’s all for now! Thanks for reading! If you missed last week’s Five Things Tech, you can find it here:
