Five Things Tech: Tech Souvereignty, Quantum Struggling, Internet by Light, Software Maintenance, Skype
Everything you should read about Tech right now.
Hello again, and welcome back to Five Things Tech!
It’s pretty obvious now that the transatlantic relations are deteriorating right now. Trump and his techbros want to dominate tech and do not care about Europe one bit. On the contrary, they find customer protection laws and regulations per se as unnecessary roadblocks imposed by the EU. So while the US administration is trying to disrupt everything and doesn’t mind breaking a lot of things like trust, laws and common decency, the EU has to quickly rethink many of its approaches to tech and really move forward quickly. Older people like me still remember when Siemens, Nokia and Ericsson were among the leading manufacturers of mobile phones and network technology. For too long a time we just spent money on American tech and now we have to quickly change our attitude to achieve higher levels of digital sovereignty. This will be a crucial undertaking for Europe.
Also, you’ll read about Quantum and its struggle to really find a market, how to use light for connectivity, why software maintenance is so damn hard and what happens with Skype now.
