Five Things Tech: Rockets & Twitter, AI's Cambrian Moment, Moore's Law, Tech Jobs, ChatGPT
There's so much going on in Tech. Read this now to stay in the know.
Hey there, tech enthusiasts! Welcome to the latest edition of Five Things Tech, where we bring you the hottest developments from the world of technology. This week, we're covering a wide range of topics that are sure to pique your interest.
I’m Nico, I have been involved in tech for over 20 years and I still enjoy it. There’s so much going on, so many developments happen, that have a huge impact on our economy and society.
First up, we've got a story about rockets and Twitter. Next, we'll be diving into the topic of artificial intelligence. It's been described as AI's Cambrian Moment, a reference to the Cambrian explosion, a period of rapid evolution in the history of life on Earth. With new breakthroughs and applications being discovered every day, it's an exciting time to be working in the field of AI. We'll also be discussing Moore's Law, a fundamental principle in the world of technology. Named after Intel co-founder Gordon Moore, it states that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles every 18-24 months. But as we approach the limits of what's physically possible, some experts are questioning whether the law is still relevant. If you're interested in tech jobs, we've got some news for you as well. And last but not least, we'll be introducing you to ChatGPT, a large language model trained by OpenAI that can answer questions, generate text, and even hold conversations - and is getting smarter from version to version.
Exploding Rockets, Exploding Twitter
It seems that running Twitter is more complicated than rocket science and that Elon Musk has a hard time understanding that. Twitter loses in relevancy very quickly.
The B2C2B osmosis fueling AI's Cambrian moment
The AI ecosystem is growing so quickly right now, it is very hard to keep up with it. Right now everybody tries to jump on the bandwagon and in a few months or so we’ll see what’s left of it.
Silicon Valley’s Favorite Slogan Has Lost All Meaning
Moore’s Law and AI - how will this turn out? We see the breakneck pace of development in the AI sphere - and Moore’s Law feels a bit outdated by now.
Tech giants aren't just cutting thousands of jobs — they're making them extinct
Big Tech hired too many people in the last few years, which created a huge bubble in the Bay Area, that now burst. The people who lost their high-paying jobs will have a hard time re-adjusting to the job-market.
How Smart is ChatGPT?
While we probably still hope that we stay smarter, it is astonishing to see how big the improvement between ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4 is. Somebody did their homework there.
