Five Things Tech: Moonshot, Chinese Spies, Quantum, Electric Cars, Bird
Read the last edition of Five Things Tech now. Well, at least for this year.
I’m not a big fan about end of the year posts with lots of predictions about the future. I’ve done that a few times and afterwards I was annoyed that I forgot the obvious aspects while focusing on some weird stuff. So instead I’ll just continue with the usual programming here.
Enjoy!
And don’t worry, I will continue Five Things Tech next year as I don’t think Tech will slow down anytime soon!
We need a moonshot for computing
It’s astonish that the US and the EU are not pushing more into the development of semiconductors. We know we need this industry badly and we know how dependent from China we have become. We need to define this industry.
Chinese Spy Agency Rising to Challenge the C.I.A.
Speaking of China, it is probably not a total surprise that China is trying to spy on the scientific community. The level of sophistication is pretty mindblowing for simple minds like myself.
Quantum Computing Is Finally Here. But What Is It?
I’m not yet convinced that Quantum is really finally finally here, but I guess we’re getting closer. But what does all of that mean?
Electric Cars Are Already Upending America
“If cars are gadgets now, then carmakers are also now tech companies. An industry that has spent a century perfecting the internal combustion engine must now manufacture lithium-ion batteries and write the code to govern them. Imagine if a dentist had to pivot from filling cavities to performing open-heart surgery, and that’s roughly what’s going on here.” - and we can all see how the legacy companies are struggling with this shift.
Blood, Guns, and Broken Scooters: Inside the Chaotic Rise and Fall of Bird
What a story. And so much money got poured into escooters. Bikelanes and bikes make so much more sense in cities.
That’s all for Five Things Tech this week!
