Five Things Tech: Hype, Health Tech, Quantum, Robotic Hand, Crypto
Tech is just amazing. And sometimes really bizarre.
What a week. First the whole OpenAI kerfuffle and then black Friday. And not to forget Thanksgiving in the USA. So let’s relax, sit back and read a bit about what’s going on in tech. We’ll start with OpenAI and how the hype led to the ousting of Sam Altman, then we’ll have a look at the state of Health Tech, which I find fascinating, then we have a look at the potential of quantum computing and read about why Europe needs to move faster in the space. Did you know that scientists managed to 3D print a complete robotic hand? After you read about that, you can entertain the thought about Crypto and its future. Does Crypto need a rebrand? Or much more?
Read on, my dear!
Sam Altman and OpenAI Are Victims of Their Own Hype
“OpenAI achieved something else of incredible value before getting anywhere near AGI. By entertaining every speculative AI scenario at once — and releasing an impressive chatbot to the public — it made itself synonymous with tech’s future. For Microsoft, but also for its peers and competitors, OpenAI is too hyped to fail.”
State of Health Tech 2023
This is a really good overview of what’s going on in health tech - read up to see where the industry is headed.
Europe has lost the AI race. It can't ignore the quantum computing one
Will there only be one winner? I doubt that. But the author does have a point. Europe needs to invest more and be quicker in adapting new tech.
Scientists 3D Print a Complex Robotic Hand With Bones, Tendons, and Ligaments
Aside from the spooky photo - this really is cool, isn’t it? Just think about the ramifications!
Does crypto need a rebrand – or is it too late?
I don’t think a rebrand will be enough. Some real useful applications would also be a good idea. Stuff you can actually understand and use without the need to understand bizarre concepts first.
That’s all for Five Things Tech this week!
