Five Things Tech: Europe, Charm, Threads, Construction, Metaverse
It's Saturday Morning. Let's talk about Tech!
So while we’re waiting for the Tech celebrity death-match in a cage in Las Vegas, let’s do some reading about what’s going on in tech right now besides some billionaires acting like high school students with too much testosteron. Right now I’m really focused on climate tech and it continues to amaze me how much innovation is going on in that space. And yet, we need more and we need it faster.
This week I curated five articles for you, that will hopefully give you a good idea about what is going on right now in tech. Enjoy!

Flywheel Thinking: Is Europe’s Tech Ecosystem Set For A Golden Decade?
Well, I sure hope so, but I still think that the classic VC model doesn’t fit too well to the European markets. Also, even though Europe is big, it is still really fragmented and the ecosystems are not really that connected, yet.
The Alchemy of Carbon Removal: How Charm Industrial Plans to Run Oil Wells in Reverse and Turn Corn Into Steel
Honestly, I didn’t pay too much attention in chemistry or physics in high school, but this sounds really cool. This would be a massive step into the right direction - and since we have the hottest summer on earth right now, it seems like we desperately need ideas like this, ideas that can be executed at scale.
Threads Review: How Meta’s New App Stacks Up Against Twitter
I signed up for Twitter a few weeks after it launched and I have almost 30k followers on Twitter. So you could say, I’m a bit attached to the platform. But honestly, it has gone down the drain so rapidly in the last few months, it just doesn’t have the same feel about it. On the other hand, I quite enjoy Threads, which is a lot like Twitter used to be. We’ll see how long this will last…
Can the Construction Industry Be Disrupted?
Construction sites to me look largely like they did when I grew up in the 70s, without the constant drinking of beer maybe. The construction industry definetely needs more innovation, especially when we want to tackle carbon emissions in the industry.
Lessons From the Catastrophic Failure of the Metaverse
I’m old enough to remember the hype around Second Life and the emptyness we all had to witness on our pretty islands. And almost 20 years later, the Metaverse didn’t do any better, it failed just on a much larger scale. Kind of embarrassing.
