Five Things Tech: Epic, Speech, Cybertruck, Micro-Medical Machines, Dissolution Service Providers
Saturday is Tech day.
Good to have you back! My name is Nico Lumma and I have been fascinated by tech since I had a Commodore C64 back in the early 80s. I invest in tech startups and help startups grow faster by connecting them to established companies - and at the same time I help those companies to get more agile and more innovative.
Obviously, I read a lot about tech and I use this newsletters to share the five most interesting articles with you each week.
Buckle up and enjoy the ride! 🕺
Epic Games won its antitrust battle with Google. But what comes next?
This is a huge deal. Even if Google will appeal this, the tendency is clear: Google has profit margins at around 70% with its Play Store and obviously smaller developers could benefit drastically from a better split than the current 30% that Google is getting. I think regulators will see the app stores as one comparetively easy sector to regulate.
A Ball of Brain Cells on a Chip Can Learn Simple Speech Recognition and Math
“However, mini-brains are increasingly easier to culture with smaller and more efficient systems—including those with recording and zapping functions built-in. The harder question isn’t about technical challenges; rather, it’s about what’s acceptable when using human brains as a computing element. AI and neuroscience are rapidly pushing boundaries, and brain-AI models will likely become even more sophisticated.” - this is fascinating and scary stuff.
We’re About to Find Out How Dangerous the Cybertruck Really Is
To phrase it positively: I think it is good that the Cybertruck breaks away from the current designs that the car industry is focusing on and sparks a debate about design and safety. I assume we will soon hear about accidents where other motorists or pedestrians didn’t have a chance. I prefer the Volvo approach of Safe Space Technology, which tries to take into account the safety of everybody who is participating in traffic.
Micro-medical machines like "The Magic Schoolbus" are being developed, but safety concerns remain
Health Tech innovation oftentimes sounds like science-fiction, but we can already see lots of stuff put into action right now. Nanobots sound crazy and yet you should get used to the idea of little things getting injected into you to do good stuff.
These Startups Help Founders Close Up Shop for Good
Isn’t entrepreneurship awesome? While everybody scrambles, others see an opportunity and make money by helping other founders shutting down their companies. Genius.
That’s all for Five Things Tech this week!
