Find out what's going on in Tech!
Hi and welcome to Five Things Tech, your Saturday newsletter that covers five interesting stories from the world of tech. My name is Nico Lumma and I have been involved in tech for over 25 years now - and I’m still curious to find out what will happen next.
These five articles were curated from all over the web and I think you should dive right in! If you haven’t subscribed yet, please do now!
Large US tech companies face new EU rules
Well, actually the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) does not just target large tech companies from the US, but regulates all tech companies that have reached a certain size. And this is a good thing and it shows again how important it is for Europe to get regulation in place that requires international corporations to act.
Tech's broken promises: Streaming is now just as expensive and confusing as cable. Ubers cost as much as taxis.
And will still don’t have flying cars and we also cannot beam us anywhere. Aside from the catchy headline, there’s some truth to that. We have been promised better prices and more easy of use, instead we have gotten increased complexity and more costs.
Is quantum computing hype or almost here?
Every week I read articles about all the things Quantum Computing will be able to do, all the new solutions it will provide and the new problems it might create. This article is sceptical about all of this and raises the issue that Qubits are a little more complicated than we all thought.
IBM’s Brain-Inspired Analog Chip Aims to Make AI More Sustainable
I understand that chipdesign is nothing they teach at school as it doesn’t involve a soldering iron anymore, but this is truly fascinating stuff. I do have to admit that as much as it is fascinating, it is also hard to comprehend.
A Nebraska startup is fighting fire with fire (and drones)
Fighting fire with fire is nothing new, but using drones for it to make it less dangerous for the firefighters and to also start the fires with more precision will hopefully help in fighting all those wildfires that currently burn all over the world.
