Five Things: Taylor Swift, Middle East, Fentanyl, Ninepin, Robot
It's Sunday Morning! Grab a coffee and sit down to read this!
It’s good to have you back on this fine Sunday Morning! Just as a quick reminder: you are reading Five Things, a newsletter compiled by me, Nico Lumma, and sent out every Sunday. Why do I do this? Basically, because I read a lot and I love sharing interesting articles that I found online somewhere. I have been doing this in one form or another for over 20 years when I started blogging.
Anyhow, here we go again with five interesting articles. Enjoy! And if you could share this email with others or on Threads or Facebook, I’d be delighted!
A Complete Timeline of the Far Right’s Tumultuous Relationship With Taylor Swift
This is so bizarre. A woman who is popular and succesful - this drives rightwingers more nuts than they already are.
Only the Middle East Can Fix the Middle East
If it were just that easy. I’m very unsure that these leaders will fix anything, as they all try to increase their influence over the region by forging new alliances.
Fentanyl, the portrait of a mass murderer
This is some truly scary stuff.
Inside America’s Last Ninepin Bowling Enclave
It might come as a surprise to you, but I’m not really into Bowling. In Germany we have had Kegeln, or Ninepin Bowling, since forever and every little village has something called a Bundeskegelbahn, which means it is a Ninepin Bowling alley according to the standards of the Federal Kegel Association. Obviously meanwhile American Bowling has taken over, which to me is kind of interesting as I majored in History a long time ago and I always found it interesting that Kegeln was outlawed in Connecticut in the 19th century as it was associated with gambling and then some enterprising folks just circumvented the new law by adding a pin. Anyhow, there’s still Ninepin Bowling around in Texas, which is slightly different than German Kegeln. I’ll add that to my list of things to do when I’m in Texas the next time.
“Sad Robot”
This is a short story about robot therapy. Too realistic?
That’s it. Have an amazing Sunday! And remember to go paid!
