Five Things: Substack Notes
You should really check out Substack Notes - here are five articles to get you started.
I started publishing my first notes on Substack Notes, and would love for you to join me there! Also, restacking is really fun!
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit into Five Things, like photos of my food or my dog.
And yes, I really like Substack Notes. It feels like a well-designed community. Try it out!
Will Substack Notes Save Our Posting Souls?
“A cursory spin on Notes early Tuesday felt like arriving at a pre-game where you already recognize a few faces.” (Vanity Fair)
Substack Notes could be the Twitter killer we've been waiting for
“In fact, I believe Notes has the potential to be the Twitter killer that so many Musk haters have been waiting for, and that it addresses the weaknesses that have kept all the other Twitter copycats from achieving mainstream adoption.” (Simon Owen’s Media Newsletter)
Substack Launches ‘Notes’ And I Get Why Elon Musk Might Feel Threatened By It
“Substack Notes sports an uncluttered design and is very similar to Twitter in several ways. Users can post short-form content like text or photos, though it doesn’t allow for video. And while it’s still very early days, I encountered precisely zero Nazis while using Notes—a major problem on Musk’s version of Twitter.” (Forbes)
The Whole Stack
“I tried Substack Notes when it launched publicly on Tuesday, and honestly, I felt like Substack had cracked some sort of code that had eluded most of us normies.” (Tedium)
Is Substack Notes a ‘Twitter clone’? We asked CEO Chris Best.
“It’s tempting to think of Substack like a rival platform to Twitter, but until the arrival of Substack Notes, it was much more like enterprise software. With Substack Notes, the company is in direct competition with social networks like Twitter. It’s shipping a consumer product that’s designed to be used by Substack readers. It is no longer just a software vendor; it’s a consumer product company. And that carries with it another set of content moderation concerns, that, after talking to Chris, I’m just not sure Substack is ready for.” (The Verge)
