Heya and welcome back to Five Things Running!
The last week was the worst week of running this year. I only got to run twice, which deeply annoys me. It’s nice and cold right now, right around freezing point, and oftentimes with some rain or snow sprinkled in. I actually like it when it’s cold outside and I have to think a bit about the layers I want to wear and then find my gloves and my beanie and all that. When I visited Tromsø up in the arctic circle a few years ago, I really ran in the cold and snow. This here is comparatively mild weather, which could still be done in shorts, as long as I hop under a hot shower right away.
I still haven’t figured out which races I want to do this year, I first need to find my running mojo again and get my mileage in before I make plans.
What have you planned?
Anyhow, here’s this week’s Five Things Running!
10 Reasons to Be Excited About Running in 2025
I’m looking forward to new shoes! And more trail running.
What excites you? Boston Marathon? More Majors?
How to Eat More (Without Overthinking It)
Eating more is easy for me, even though I started running to lose weight. I still do my morning runs fasted (except for coffee, of course), but I do fuel plenty during longer runs or races. I think high carb fueling will be the thing for 2025.
History of the Nike Pegasus
My dad bought a pair of OG Pegasus some time in the early 80s when they became available in our local department store. Nike was still a rather unknown brand in Germany back then, which was divided into Adidas and Puma. And even 40 years later, the Nike Pegasus is a shoe that always ranks up high on my list of shoes to buy. I usually don’t buy it as I find other options that suit me better, but the allure is there. I admire this consistency that Nike instilled into the Pegasus.
How to make running suck less
Here are some good ideas to motivate you to go out and run! I like the idea to run to a bakery and replenish all the burned carbs right away.
‘Raven’ Kraft Hasn’t Missed a Day of Running In 50 Years. He’s Still Going.
This is impressive and insane at the same time. I did 77 days of streak running last year and that was exhausting. 50 years seems a bit excessive to me.
I’m grateful for the partners of Five Things Running: Acid Running, New Balance and Coros!
