Heya and welcome back to Five Things Running!
About last week: I ran 6km. First I was still recovering from my race on Sunday, then I didn’t find the time to run and then I was totally exhausted from the week and my Oura ring told me to slow down. So I complied. Next week will be better.
Last week my copy of Like the Wind #43 arrived. LtW is one of the few magazines I still read on paper and it is so worth it! Especially when there’s an article in there written by me. Yeah. I’m so stoked about this and I’m happy to have been given the opportunity to write about my favorite race and how my former teacher started organizing the race right after East Germany started to crumble. Campaign highlights women's winter exercise fears
“Runners have taken to the streets to raise awareness of the safety issues women face when exercising in the dark during the UK's winter months. […]
The campaign found 72% of women change their behaviour when exercising during winter - up 26% from a similar study carried out last year.” - it sickens me that it is still necessary to raise awareness for this. I have the luxury to run whenever I find the time and it should be like this for everybody.

Taking a Break from Running Can Make You Come Back Faster and Fitter
“Taking a break from running can feel both exciting and worrisome. On the one hand, you can take that rest you’ve needed after, say, pushing your body through months of marathon training. And you can take time to enjoy the holiday season without adding to your stress levels. On the other hand, how could you possibly stop running? It’s the sport you love, after all.”
Ultrarunning for Beginners Series: Part I
I knew it’s that simple:
”Take your time to choose your first race wisely.
Consider your current fitness level, available training time, and desired level of support. Research the prerequisites, think about travel logistics, and most importantly – find your meaningful “why.” These factors will set you up for success much more than frantically counting miles or obsessing over elevation profiles.”
Why Zero-Calorie “Depletion” Runs Aren’t Worth the Hype
I usually run in a fastened state and I have done lots of depletion runs. Turns out that was not a good idea. I still like running in a fastened state, but now I’ll take some gel along.
