So while a lot of people are focused on Boston and seeing Eliud Kipchoge setting yet another course record on his way to race and win all six major marathons, I feel pretty good about running the Hamburg Marathon next weekend. There’s some pain in my lower back that concerns me a little bit, but my plan is to just sleep it off and if that doesn’t work, I’ll just ignore it for 42km next Sunday.
I know this sounds weird, but I’m actually looking forward to having all those energy gels during the race. Also, I did enough long runs in the last weeks that I figured out which ones I like and which ones taste like some weird chemistry experiment gone wrong. I think I will mostly rely on Aerobee Honey Energy Gel and GU Caramel Macchiato. This will satisfy my sweet tooth and keep my energy levels up. At least that’s what I hope.
If you’re in Hamburg next Sunday, come out to the Marathon and cheer for us runners. Or just run yourself!

How Fast Is Eliud Kipchoge? You’ll Fall Down When You Find Out.
Eliud Kipchoge is twice as fast as I am running a marathon. The Tumblerette is a really cool idea to help people understand what running that fast really means. I’m really looking forward to seeing him race Boston. (New York Times)

That’s all for now! Enjoy the Boston Marathon!
Thanks for the mention of my ultra crewing article! Out of solidarity I started having lower back pain since yesterday, too. 🤷🏻♂️
All the best. Stay safe!
