Heya, welcome back to Five Things Running!
Last week was a good week, again. I ran a bit more than 60 km and I even went swimming, again. I feel really fit at the moment and every time I think about registering for a race, I hesitate, because I don’t want to jinx it…
On Saturday I took part in a fun event, organized by Tobi Oebel and New Balance - the 137.Energy Run, which was 20k through Hamburg. I got to run in the New Balance Rebel, which was good fun, but we ran a bit too slow for this shoe, I think. It was great to get to hang out and run with other runners, always chatting about running, life and what not. After the run we had a great vegan buffet and a few non-alcoholic beers to rehydrate after a nice run. I can’t wait for the next time Tobi organizes a run!
The most interesting part of the run was when we ran to the New Balance Store, which is located in the main pedestrian zone in Hamburg. Just one street away from where the world’s biggest triathlon event took place on Saturday. So our group of 50 runners ran among triathletes warming up, supporters and spectators looking for the best place to watch the triathlon and shoppers looking for the best bargains. Not everybody was amused, but we had fun. :)
Now, please read these Five Things Running!
Why running is super trendy right now
The likely explanation for the current boom in running is that people took it up during the pandemic and are now forming run-clubs to make running more social and create new communities.
Indonesia’s 'Strava jockey' trend goes viral, but buying exercise achievements comes with potential pitfalls, say experts
Ok, this is nuts. On the on hand there’s dark Strava, where professional elites stop posting their runs to keep the competition in the dark about their training, and then there’s people buying runs on Strava to show off.
Unsanctioned Racing Is the Most Fun You Can Have Running
“Unsanctioned racing allows us to break free from that monopoly and create a circuit we want, in the places people want to run, and with communities that might not be served by the major race organizers. The possibilities are limited only by our imaginations.” - awesone, I want to race in one of those races!
Tim Tkachenko Has 60-Plus Co-Founders. Why the Entrepreneur Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way
Last week my colleague was invited to join the Founders Running Club chapter in Hamburg and he was like “Nico, they probably meant you…” - so I joined the Whatsapp group and am now looking forward to running with likeminded people on Saturdays.
Is Pickle Juice Really The Answer To Your Hydration Woes?
I’ve heard about ultra arunners swearing that pickle juice helps them running long distances and the science is behind this as well. I’m still not sure about pouring pickle juice into my bottles anytime soon.
