Hello and welcome back to Five Things Running!
My name is Nico Lumma and I have been on my longest running streak ever, which started on January 1st. Also, I have been doing a plank for a minute every single day and on most days, except for travel days, I did kettlebell swings. It’s amazing how fast my body changes and adepts, even at my age. Drinking no alcohol since January 1st also did help a lot. I now run between 50 and 70 kilometers a week and feel awesome. I started with 6 km a day and now easily do 10 km a day and a long run on the weekend.
It’s so awesome to be able to run a lot and without pain again. I think the kettlebell swings and the planks really help with my back problems, at least I do feel a lot stronger around my core. Also, dropping more than 10 kg and weighing as much as I last did over 30 years ago during basic training at the army probably does help as well.
On Sunday we had a wonderful early Spring day and I did a nice run with a little more than 20 km through the Alstervalley in Hamburg. I love that route a lot, as it starts at my house and after about 2 km it doesn’t feel like being in the city at all anymore.
At The Olympic Trials Marathon, DFL Means Pain Over Regret
I cannot imagine the pressure on athletes who need to get one of the few spots to get onto the olympic team. So apparently DFL has to be avoided at all costs.
Two-thirds of women get harassed while running, England survey finds
This is so sickening: “The academics behind the study, Dr Caroline Miles and Prof Rose Broad, said they were not shocked by their findings, adding it was surprising how normalised the experience was for the women they surveyed.”
An Excerpt from Sabrina Little's Debut Book "The Examined Run : " Training in Suffering
I recently listened to the Crack a Brew with AJW episode with Sabrina Little and after that I preordered the book. I was pretty intrigued by the conversation. So enjoy the excerpt.
The Rise of the Running Concierge
Whenever I go on a business trip, I make sure to run in the morning. This is a wonderful way to see a city and much better than just being in meetings all day long. So the idea of a running concierge makes total sense to me.
Sweanty’s wearable patch for athletes tracks salt loss to help them hydrate
I like to get as much data as possible about my body. It’s not that I absolutely need it to know how good or bad I feel, but it sure helps. Tracking salt loss is something that I personally find very interesting. And I’m always rooting for the startups that try new things.
That’s all for now!
Thank you for reading Five Things Running. Remember to go paid now! It will make me run with a huge smile!
Now, go running!
