Just a week ago I thought my running was doing just great - and this abruptly changed last week when I only got in one run on Tuesday and then felt some minor pain in my back on Wednesday and didn’t go running at all for the rest of the week, only to have major backpain on Saturday. Now I’m feeling like I’m 50 years old… but munching on diclophenac tablets and wearing a heat patch on my lower back seems to do the trick. While this does suck, the Hamburg Marathon is three weeks away and it’s better that this happened now and not in the week before the race.
I’m looking forward to this week and hopefully I can do more than just walking. My plan was to enjoy the long Easter weekend with some long runs. We’ll see how that goes.

Eliud Kipchoge's greatest challenge? The mission to set course records in all six World Marathon Majors
I think running all six World Marathon Majors is quite an accomplishment in its own right, but six course records is just something out of this world. I guess that’s why Eliud Kipchoge will be able to achieve it. GOAT.
What You Do (and Don’t) Need in a Running Shoe
For me it boils down to having at least two pairs of running shoes in rotation. This is the only thing I learned in biology class when I was a senior in highschool. My teacher was a triathlete and when we asked the right questions, he forgot about class and talked about running instead.
Building Your Long Run
The long run is the best run of the week. I just love it. Once you can easily cruise around and run 20 km, the fun begins. Speedwork is important as well, but I’m running for the long run.
The Human Odometer. How Far Can We Run?
That’s a lot of kilometers. It also seems a bit excessive to run that much.
In Praise of the Humble Pop-Tart, the Ultimate Endurance Breakfast
Different strokes for different folks, but I’d rather have a banana. What do you eat before a long run?
That’s all for now! I hope you liked this edition of Five Things Running!
