Hello and welcome back to Five Things Running!
I had a great week of running, thanks for asking! On Sunday I ran the first of three races for the 4th Trailrunning Cup Harburger Berge, which was a lot of fun. Although the name Harburger Berge is kind of a misnomer, because these are not mountains (Berge), but rather hills, the route had an elevation gain of 480 meters, which is quite a lot for me. Harburg is just south of Hamburg, but since there’s a river between Hamburg and Harburg, it feels like uncharted territory and I almost never go there. Anyhow, the Harburger Berge are quite fun to run and after running 20km yesterday, I’m looking forward to running the 10k next week. When I look at the results, I get the feeling that I have to run a bit faster in the next two races…
One thing I have to learn: understanding how navigation works on my Coros Pace 2. I run roughly 1 km, then turned around and used the komoot app instead, and still missed lots of turns, ending up running one additional kilometer.
Anyhow, it was great fun and I’m thankful for the organizers to come up with this great idea for a free (donation requested) event. Every Monday they post the .gpx file and then we have a week to run 20km, 10km and 30km, respectively.
How was your week? Did you get all the runs in that you wanted? Don’t forget to stretch!
Running’s Latest Secret Brain Ingredient Is Oxytocin
Researchers are trying to figure out why running is so wonderful. That’s really interesting stuff, but I think some mystique will make the sport even better.
Jack Scott: How I won the Montane Spine Race
I don’t know what I find more insane: running a race that is 268 miles long or practicing for it by running on a treadmill with a 25% gradient. Wow.
Running out of trouble
While I don’t think that running is the solution for everything, I certainly like stories where running made it possible to change the direction of the life of a person.
Embrace The Second-Dumbest Running Watch You Can Find
Could I run without logging it to Strava? Sure. But honestly, I like collecting data and even though I don’t need to do it, it sparks joy. And I like connecting APIs and looking at dashboards. At the same time, I find the idea of just running without really focusing on the details quite intriguing.
The Six Keys To Lifetime Running
is one of the runners I truly admire. He loves the sport and doesn’t stop running. I will now think of a mantra. Also, I’m doing everything to stay in shape after wasting too much time without sports and with too much weight on my hips. (I’m sorry that Marathonhandbook.com uses so many ads to bury the content somewhere between them, it’s a sucky reading experience)That’s all for now!
Thank you for reading Five Things Running. Remember to go paid now! It will make me run longer!
Now, go running!
