Thanks for reading Five Things Running - my name is Nico and I love running. I also happen to read a lot of stuff about running which I do to compensate for not running.
I know that you all want to know about my left thigh. Well, there’s still some minor pain, but ignoring it really helps and I think the leg will be fine soon. It’s my back that is still causing problems. Probably just my age… Anyhow, my running is almost back to how it was before my injury during the Hamburg Marathon and I did the reasonable thing today and didn’t run the Hamburg Half Marathon. I did do a nice 12,5 km run in the sun and I definetely will run more and longer now that I can move my leg again, which really makes running so much easier.
Courtney Dauwalter and Tom Evens won the Western States 100 - did you watch the livestream? I really don’t care that much about races and their coverage, but Western States 100 is really fun to watch, kind of like listening to soccer matches on the radio.

8 Things I learned from the Western States Endurance Run 2023
This race was again amazing, but unfortunately I only got to watch a few hours of the livestream.
has a pretty good summary and reflects on his own race last year.10 Years of Heart Rate Training: My Experience
For a while I have been trying to focus more on my heart rate when running. I’m not as structured as the author and I also didn’t improve my marathon time from over 4 hours to 2:44, but I do see the benefits and try to run slower now.
The Ugly Shoes Now Worth Billions of Dollars
I’ve been through a lot of pairs of Hokas in the last few years. And yes, it was a change when I first stepped into those clunky shoes. While I walk around in my older shoes who have done their duty, I really don’t understand how this brand become a fashion item.
PEAK / DIVIDE
Peak/Divide is a “casual ultra” in the Peak District in UK, which focuses on being more inclusive and bringing people of color to the sport of trailrunning.
Is This the Hippest Running Store in the World?
Every once in a while I phantasize about having my own running store, because mostly I hate running stores as they always make me feel slow and not athletic enough. I like running culture and the Metta Running House in Mexico City looks like an interesting take on it.
That’s all for now! I hope your Sunday runs were longer than mine!
Thank you! ❤️
