Heya and welcome back to Five Things Running!
I finally went running again. It was awesome. Well, actually, it sucked, because it felt terrible. In just three long weeks I gained too much weight and lost the ability to move swiftly. But I sucked it up and ran around the local park five times last week. And now it feels good to be back into running.
Too much pink? I don’t think so.
For those who are observing, today is the day of the Boston Marathon. Enjoy the race and everything around it!
Here’s this week’s Five Things Running!
Adding Black culture to the Boston narrative
After growing up with violence throughout his life, he had the opportunity to “leave the hood” and go to boarding school at 14. He describes the situation as a culture shock, and couldn’t stop wanting to bring more people that looked like him into the school. As Sid learned that he was fast, he ran track, breaking records along the way. He then partied his way through a big college, but duly acquired a high-flying accounting job. Again, he spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how he could use his position to aid his community.
I love reading
as he adds a much needed perspective to running! When Ideas Arrive on the Run
Inspiration doesn’t always arrive on cue. Often, it appears in a flash and is gone just as fast. With practice, we can learn to notice these mystical visitations, and with a little foresight, have our jars open and ready to catch the light.
Thanks for this article,
! Now all my brilliant ideas and thoughts from my runs won’t be lost and I assume soon most of the world’s problems will be solved, because of my mind and my running. No, honestly, hopefully I will do a better job now in remembering my ideas after I come home from a run.How Running Saved My Life
shares what running means to her and I can relate to that as I started running while being totally overweight, which is the opposite of what she experienced. Still, running helps.Running became my escape—my way of coping when life felt too overwhelming and the urge to return to unhealthy habits crept in.
A Belt Like No Other
I’ve had 6 months to gather my thoughts and usage on the belt. The first thing I want to say is that if you’re not a belt person, there’s a “break in” period. Meaning that it takes some getting use to having weight distributed around your waist, rather than an upper body pack as many of us are traditionally familiar with. Once that adjustment period wavers, you begin to experience the true magic.
There are running belts and then there’s Raide. Ever since the Raide LF 2L was introduced, I was intrigued and actually considered buying a running belt for €132,95, which is about as much as I would pay for running shoes. I didn’t end up buying the belt, yet, as I really think this is too much money for a belt and other belts cost about a fifth of the Raide. And then I read this review and need to rethink my purchase decisions.
How to Get in Shape Fast
So here it is, my list of things to do to get in shape fast. Let me know what you think; I don’t imagine this will resonate with everyone. This isn’t a formula to go out and run a marathon, this isn’t even a formula to maybe go out and run a 10k, depending on your level of fitness, but it’s a formula that’s worked for me over and over again. Whenever I’ve had to come back from a few down weeks due to whatever else is happening in my life. Hope you enjoy!
Other people are just so structured. I run by feeling and somehow that works as well, especially when I make sure not to overdo it on day one.
