My big plan for this week: I want to go running again. Hi, I’m Nico, it’s great to have you back! I injured myself during the Hamburg Marathon a few weeks ago and hopefully I can go back to running this week.
Before we dive into the five articles about running I want to share with you, I need to tell you a bit about my weekend. We went to the birthday party of one of my wife’s oldest and best friends. As we sat down for dinner, I heard my wife tell another couple “oh, my husband runs trail as well!” - and then she told me about the guy running UTMB this summer. Haha. There’s me running trail and him running trail. Big difference. And his wife is running ultras as well. And he’s the editor-in-chief of a running magazine. We only got to geek out a bit about running, shoes and all that, then I had to resume a conversation with the guy who sat opposite of me. I guess I’ll now have to subscribe to Laufzeit.
Keep on running!

Advice to My Younger Self: Five Lessons From a Physiotherapist for a Lifetime of Sustainable Running
I should’ve read this article a long time ago, as I struggle with injuries at least twice a year. Getting older really sucks.
Straight to Ultra
Tucker Morrison explains his reasoning behind skipping the marathon race distance. He just ran and ran more and then figured out that he could run much more. Interesting tidbit (at least for me): he ran the Booneville Backroads Ultra in beautiful Madison County, Iowa, which you probably know from the movie “The Bridges of Madison County”, starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. I actually have lived around the corner over 30 years ago and visited Booneville before. Now I need to plan my next trip home to Iowa in a way that I could run the race…
Things Every Running Shop Employee Wishes You Knew
This is really good advice. I’d like to add my two cents: last year’s model, which is heavily discounted, will probably be just fine for you. Unless, of course, last year’s model was a doozy, in that case you should splurge on the latest model. And one more thing: color doesn’t really matter. Hopefully you’ll get the shoes dirty right away.
More than Pacing
This is a beautiful text by Alexi Pappas not just about pacing, but about friendship and about taking a challenge and trying something new for the first time. She’s also right, “running from buffet to buffet” doesn’t sound as bad as running 100k.
42 Lessons From Running 42 Marathons
I don’t think I will be able to complete 42 marathons in my lifetime, but I do like the advice offered in those 42 lessons. Sure, most is common sense, but it does help to be reminded of those lessons. Sam Bracke is right about the running journey.
That’s all for now! I hope your Sunday runs were better than mine!
