Five Things: Lock him Up!, Ocean Cleanup, Economics of AI, 2012, Returns
Here we go again. Grab a coffee and read this!
Welcome to the latest edition of Five Things! I’m Nico, I read a lot, may be a bit too much and I like to share the best articles I read this week with you.
My wife recently told me that I’m focused too much on the bad things that are happening, especially when it comes to climate change. So here you get to read about a really awesome project that cleans up the ocean. Amazing, what humans can do. Also, and I think this is very positive, the fourth indictment of Donald Trump will hopefully and most likely put him where he belongs. In jail. This is good for the world. Also this week you get to read about AI and the economics behind it and why 2012 was a bit like 1971. And then not at all and totally different. Also, if you like ordering online just to try out a few things to send them back, don’t read the last of the five articles.

Folks, the wait was worth it: Donald Trump is going to prison
Let’s all hope that the Donald will finally get locked up. And then hopeful some sane people get into the leadership of the Republicans. Yes, I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. (Salon)
Ocean cleanup group removes record 25,000 pounds of trash from Great Pacific Garbage Patch in one extraction
We read about the pollution of the oceans all the time, but this really gives me hope that we can fight it and at least clean up the biggest mess. We need many more of these efforts. (ABC News)
What exactly are the economics of AI?
So where are we right now with everything going on in AI? Gary Marcus takes a look at the current developments, the numbers behind and tries to make sense of it all. Read this if you want to get a better understanding of the hype and substance around AI. (Marcus on AI)
What the heck happened in 2012?
In 2012 one of my daughters was born, but that probably wasn’t it. Just look at 1971 and 2012 and see what happened in these years and how it changed life in general. (The Intrinsic Perspective)
What Happens to All the Stuff We Return?
Have you ever ordered something and then sent it back? Thought so. We all do. But do you know what happens to all the stuff you send back? Or do you just don’t want to think about it? You should! (New Yorker)
That’s it. Have an amazing Sunday!
