This is the best Five Things edition of the year! Read it now!
Hey there! Thanks for making the effort to open this email! This is Five Things, your weekly companion for spending some time with some good reading. My name is Nico and I have my phone with me constantly to read stuff on the interwebs. My plan for 2024 is to keep writing Five Things for you - so please consider going paid this year!
So, let’s dig into the five stories for today! And we start off with 66 stories. Yeah, I know, this is a bit confusing, but just go ahead and read these Five Things now!
66 Good News Stories You Didn't Hear About in 2023
Let’s kick off the year with some good news about last year. Still, I’m glad 2023 is over.
Why Substack is at a crossroads
takes a look at the current debate about Substack and its stance, or lack thereof, towards rightwing content on its platform. Substack should kick the Nazis off its platform and should do everything possible to demonetize the Nazis, instead Substack argues that it is not a platform. So I guess I need to start thinking about moving this newsletter to a different platform, which is a shame as I just setup Five Things on Substack a year ago and quite like it here. The War in Ukraine Is Not a Stalemate
Russia started the war against Ukraine almost two years ago. The West needs to be constantly reminded that this is a war against liberty and Western values. We have to help the Ukrainians as much as we can and then some.
Everyone is on their phones. But is it really phone addiction we’re experiencing?
No, it’s not. But we all still have to get used to this connected gadgets in our hands. On related news, I recently read two paper books and I could hardly put them away.
Get real and read some history. The past was worse.
Well, yes. And still we should do everything we can to make the future brighter.
That’s it. Have a great start into 2024! And remember to go paid!
