Five Things for the second Sunday of the Year
Here we are again. It's Sunday Morning and you get your weekly fix of interesting articles to read.
Before this week I had little knowledge about the proceedings in the U.S. House of Representatives, even though I studied Political Science with a focus on the American Political System three decades ago. It’s truly a remarkable shit show how the right-wing radicals in the Republican party will for the next years hold the speaker hostage by threatening to oust him if he doesn’t comply with they ridiculous demands. So we will now experience a democracy being dominated by a small minority who doesn’t want to govern, but to destroy. What a disgrace.
On the other hand, I was deeply impressed by the speech minority leader Hakeem Jeffries gave, which gives me some hope for the future.
What also gives me hope: my kids are going back to school on Monday, so home office will finally be possible.
Tel Aviv: a microcosm of the future of micromobility
When I was in Tel Aviv five years ago, I was surprised by all the escooters and small ebikes that where being used to cruise around the city, oftentimes on the sidewalks. Slowly this is starting to happen here in Hamburg as well, obviously in a much more orderly way and with less palm trees and sun. Tel Aviv really looks like a laboratory for mobility to me.
Politicians are getting older – shutting young people out of decision-making around the world
The German parliament has a record number of young legislators now, which I think is fundamentally a good thing. Democracy needs change and people clinging to their seats for too long usually doesn’t result in the best and freshest ideas.
You’ll Miss Gerontocracy When It’s Gone
Well, yes, there is something about knowing how to work the system and getting things done. Also, experience should not be undervalued.
How has war changed love and relationships in Ukraine?
The war in Ukraine has been going on for way too long and this obviously has a tremendous impact on the lives of the people. And even with a war raging in Ukraine, people need some sort of normal life.
Billionaires Are A Security Threat
While we talk about the decentralized web again and web3 gets traction, we should always be reminded that the invention of the internet was based on open protocols that would make interaction between different computer nodes possible. All the platforms that arose in the last two decades have essentially made the web more centralized. We should always keep in mind that the foundation of the internet is a decentralized system.
So, that’s it for now. Enjoy the five articles and have a great Sunday!
