Five Things: Extremists, Water, Propanda, Musical Taste, Parenthood
It's Sunday again. Read this now!
Hi and welcome back to Five Things! If you don’t remember why you subscribed or just somehow got here: my name is Nico Lumma, I read a lot online and I like to share the five most interesting articles with you, my esteemed readers. If you haven’t subscribed yet or if you finally decided to go paid, here’s a handy button to do just that.
Thanks. It feels good, doesn’t it? Your money is in good hands, don’t worry!
May must have been a really busy month for Jesus. It sure seems that way, as in Germany we have a church holiday every week in May because of something Jesus did or that happened to him. I really admire the foresight that those events all happened on a Monday or Thursday, which leads to lots of short work weeks now. For those who don’t know: today is Pentecost Sunday, which is followed by a holiday on Monday. And Pentecost is 50 days after Easter and is seen as the beginning of what turned into the church as we know it now. With the rapidly declining numbers in German society that still go to church, it is very nice that we still keep all the holidays, even though nobody knows what they are for anymore. Why do I know this? I studied mediaeval history some 30 years ago and back then religion did play a lot bigger role, which meant that I had to do some reading to understand all the references to the bible. Also, Wikipedia is really helpful, too.
Anyhow, I put together an interesting reading list for you, so please dig right in.
Have a great Sunday!
The Unpunished: How Extremists Took Over Israel
This is a long article that is really hard to digest. Israel needs a new government that puts an end to it, but this will increase the division in its society even more.
Feds say he masterminded an epic California water heist. Some farmers say he’s their Robin Hood
What a story. I imagine that this will happen more often as water becomes a scarcity in many more places and not just in the San Joaquin Valley. What do you think? Is he really a Robin Hood?
Democracy Is Losing the Propaganda War
I think we have been to complacent and too hesitant to put up a fight. Russia and China built up their troll factories in plain sight and the West didn’t do anything about it. And now they influence the voting patterns in our democracies.
Most people's musical taste is stuck
is touching on the really big question. Of course my musical taste has been immaculate from the beginning, so obviously I don’t feel stuck. Almost Like Being in Love
Our oldest daughter has moved out a year and half ago and this pretty much changed our relationship in an instant. I can so relate to this text. And I love it that she asks me every few days what she could make for dinner with the ingredients she already has.
That’s it. Have a great Sunday! If you missed last Sunday’s edition of Five Things, have a look here:
