Hello and welcome to the Five Things Curator’s Cut for December 2024 in which you can read five great articles that didn’t make it into the weekly cut. These articles were so good, I had to save them for my most esteemed readers, the ones that pay to read Five Things. If you haven’t subscribed yet, now would be a good time!
It’s the week before Christmas. Since this is a reason to be cheerful while you’re busy getting presents, doing menu planning and cleaning the house, or at least you know that’s what you should be doing (I’m just writing this because my wife reads my newsletter every once in a while and has a tendency to remind me of all the chores I’m supposed to do while adding new ones if I don’t pay attention), I thought (ha, nice long sentence, right, it’s easy for a German to do long, winding sentences) it would be a great idea to offer you something to read.
You can find out what it means that this is the year the creators took over, why the right like the writing of Antonio Gramsci, a communist, why you might need a news vacation (and then have more time for Five Things), why the rich won the war on poverty, and why social media platforms are somehow like dying malls these days.
Enjoy!
