Five Things: American West, Ted Lasso, Middle Age, Video Games, Hair Math
I know you want to read this email. It will make your Sunday so much better.
Ooops, you did it again. It’s Sunday Morning and you’re reading the latest edition of Five Things!✌🏻
Hi, my name is Nico and I’m a very curious person who likes reading great journalism, well argued opinion pieces and lengthy articles full of research. Every Sunday I put together an email with links to five articles which I find really interesting. The selection of the articles is based on my current interests. I sincerely hope that you find these articles as interesting and thoughtprovoking as I did. I don’t wan’t to ruin your Sunday. 🤓
On the weekends I like to take some time and walk with our dog through the nearby city park. Now that summer has finally arrived in Hamburg, it seems like everybody is taking all they can carry and relocate half of their household to the park. Today I saw, obviously, lots of grills, lots of coolers, lots of crates full of beer, and chairs, tables, blankets. I saw college students playing beer pong at their own beer pong table, others set up soccer goals, slack-lines, or brought plenty of other sports equipment, including, but not limited to, inflateable boats, SUP boards, badminton raquets, soccer balls, and so on. There were couples enjoying the sun, families letting their kids play and large groups celebrating. All the people came from various socio-economic backgrounds and all hung out in the sun, doing their thing. Life can be so awesome. The only household item I didn’t see was a fridge.
Have a great Sunday and enjoy Five Things! ✌🏻
In the American West, a Clown Motel and a Cemetery Tell a Story of Kitsch and Carnage
This is a fascinating account of the way a small town in Nevada is dealing with its history and trying to make it appealing to tourists. I found the sign advertising “free wifi” at a brothel particularly weird. And of cause the clowns. (Newline Mag)
Why America Desperately Needed Ted Lasso
Not just America, I think we all needed Ted Lasso. Also, I’m still thinking about getting a moustache. Hopefully there will be a next season soon. (The New York Times)
Whatever happened to middle age? The mysterious case of the disappearing life stage
I don’t feel like 50 and when I compare myself with my parents I think they were much older and much more settled at an earlier age. It’s really interesting how this changed. (The Guardian)
Worried about your kids' video gaming? Explore their online worlds yourself
I have a very expensive media lab at home where I try to understand all the latest trends and technologies - I have four kids and the all play games and use the internet. Do I know all the games they play? Not really. But I let them explain to me what they are doing and why it is fun and who they are playing with. (NPR)
Hair Math
There was a time when I had more and longer hair. But I have a wife and three daughters and their hair routine is a lot different from mine. This article helped me understand more about women’s hair in general and especially about the curly girl method. (Slate)
That’s it. Have an amazing Sunday!
