Five Things AI: New Competition, Market Reaction, Export Controls, DeepSeek R1 explained, Writers
Here we go AIgain!
Heya and welcome back to Five Things AI!
DeepSeek R1 sure made some headlines this week. Let’s dig a little deeper into this new competition and how they do thinks differently. I am sure this kind of progress was inevitable, but obviously not everybody is happy about this coming from a Chinese company. To me, this shows that the AI race is far from over and the reaction from Marc Zuckerberg and others confirms this. Zuck wants to continue to invest heavily in AI and I am sure that OpenAI and others will do the same. Obviously, from a European view, I’d rather have European competition in the AI race rather than the Chinese stirring things up. It will be interesting to see how the American government will respond to this and how they will tighten export controls. Chips will continue to be in the center of attention, even though the market reacted quickly to the DeepSeek announcement. Let’s not forget that a new administration just got started and the Chinese are playing their part to create some confusion.
Speaking of confusion, writers are still trying to figure out how to deal with AI and how this effects writing. This is an interesting debate and while I write this whole newsletter by myself without the help of an AI at all, I like using AI while composing texts to quickly draft outlines and get feedback on my writing.
So, without further ado, here’s the latest edition of Five Things AI!
