Five Things AI: Golden Opportunity, DeepSeek, Speed, Film Industry, Dating
All you need to read about AI this week.
Heya and welcome back to Five Things AI!
So this week President Macron invited everyone to come to Paris and listen to him and Ursula von der Leyen laying out their plans for AI in Europe. Notably absent were the Germans. While I do understand that the leading politicians have a campaign to run and don’t want to spend time outside of the country, this would have been a great opportunity to join an international forum and debate the future of AI. Macron is really good at doing these kind of events. I was invited to a conference in the Palais de l'Élysée a few years ago when Macron was Minister of Economy and he initiated a French-German collaboration to improve the startup industry in both states. He is really good at delivering bold remarks and backing it up with huge numbers when it comes to investments. Maybe that’s why Germany was absent. Anyhow, the EU wants to spend €150 billion on AI in the near future, which is a good sign. It will be interesting to see where exactly this money will be spent and I sure hope that the EU is focusing more on open-source approaches than on investing in GPU power.
This week’s Five Things AI of course deals with the AI Summit, which was deeply impacted by DeepSeek. We will also look at the recent developments in AI and how everything is speeding up even more, before we go to the movies and finally look at AI dating.
Enjoy!
