Five Things AI: Girlfriend Apps, Ukrainian Drones, Hollywood AI Jobs, Olive Oil, Writing and AI
The summer of AI is heating up. Read more about it now.
While it is tempting to just prompt this intro text of my newsletter on AI, I always write it myself. The reason is simple: I’m a bit old-fashioned at times. :) Also, I read lots of articles over the course of the week to pick out five articles that I think you might enjoy and that probably make you a bit smarter. So I think it only makes sense that after all the reading and selecting I should then also write all the blurbs myself and come up with a semi-clever intro that will convey the importance of these five articles to you, my valued reader.
And yes, the article about AI and writing is really long, but it unpacks lots of stuff that is at the core of our writing process and it reinforced my stance that I should write all this by myself.
Regenerate response.

Uncharted territory: do AI girlfriend apps promote unhealthy expectations for human relationships?
I think this is just the beginning for a wave of tools that are designed to help us cope better with other humans. My assumption is that this will get better over time and that we will get used to the idea. Remember when online-dating was bizarre and new?
The war in Ukraine is spurring a revolution in drone warfare using AI
It’s amazing how clever and creative the Ukrainians are in defending their homeland. AI plays an important role in this and I hope that soon the Ukrainian tech scene will get their peace dividend when investments in their startups will go through the roof, once the war is over.
Studios Quietly Go on Hiring Spree for AI Specialist Jobs Amid Picket Line Anxiety
We will see this pattern more often in the future. People want job stability and better pay, employers answer those requests by threatening to make their jobs obsolet, signaling to the shareholders: “we got this!” - for the movie industry with all the reliance on CGI, GenerativeAI is a logical next step. But I’m sure the people fighting for their jobs have a different view on that, which I totally understand.
AI Unlocks Olive Oil’s Potential in Alzheimer’s Battle
We will see studies like this more often in the future as AI can find out a lot more a lot quicker than humans can. It’s fascinating. The implications for health related research will be enormous.
What AI Teaches Us About Good Writing
We have all played around with GenerativeAI tools and for some occasions the autogenerated text works really well. Then again, it takes away something that makes our own connection with our text stronger.
