Five Things AI: Audio, Panic, Ancient Scroll, Battery Research, Face Search
What a week in AI, again. Read on.
The development of Artificial Intelligence is still at a breakneck speed and at the same time people start to understand that the valuations of the companies are getting enormously inflated, but that an ROI is getting more and more complicated with the rising cost of graphic cards and all the energy needed to power the huge data centers. This will pose huge problems for startups as they will have a hard time subsidizing the costs for their users with all the VC money when they need to hand over most of their cash to NVIDIA, just to do another round of fundraising to spend almost all the money on graphic cards again.
I’m curious at what time one of the prominent VC will write a memo saying: “we cannot go on like this forever in the AI space!” - until that, curiosity and greed will prevail.

The New AI Panic
One of the most important topics when dealing with AI is not the hullucination of GenerativeAI, but rather AI safety. The discussions around it can be mind-boggling, but it’s important to discuss possible ramifications of AI that go way beyond a change in the labor force.

Researchers use AI to read word on ancient scroll burned by Vesuvius
This is really amazing. Just imagine what else AI will soon be able to decipher. Maybe in the future I can use AI to be able to read my notes? Fascinating.

How AI could supercharge battery research
I freely admit that I had no idea how complicated it is to develop new batteries. So it makes perfect sense to use AI to figure out which combination of chemicals can work to create better batteries. This is important for EV, but also for solar and wind as energy resources.

'Too dangerous': Why even Google was afraid to release this technology
Ok, very catchy headline, I admit that. How do you feel about your face getting reverse searched? This is scary on so many levels, methinks. Impressive tech, but very scary.
