Five Things AI: AI Threatens Humanity, Workday Transformation, New Cybersecurity Threats, Tom's Hardware Bot, AI TV Writers
Everybody is doing AI now. Read this to stay in the know.
There is so much going on in the world of artificial intelligence right now. It’s amazing, it’s breathtaking and it can be overwhelming and sometimes even frightening.
I’m Nico, I have been involved in tech for over 20 years and I still enjoy it. I’m trying to help you navigate through everything AI by compiling the most interesting and recent articles on AI for you. Read this and you know what’s going on.
If you have been reading Five Things for a while, you might have noticed that I have started new sections recently: Five Things Tech and Five Things Running. Now Five Things AI will be yet another section of Five Things. If you don’t want to read each and every Five Things newsletter section, feel free to manage your subscriptions here - just don’t unsubscribe all, ok?
I want to point out two recently AI tools that I came across this week.
LangDock is really interesting as it makes it very easy to create an LLM Plugin from an API. If you have had a look at ChatGPT-4 recently, you probably noticed the new plugin-infrastructure, which essentially behaves like a good old app store within ChatGPT. This is so powerful, because it makes it very easy for existing companies to be present inside of ChatGPT. Using LangDock will make this development even faster.
Nack is a mobile app that combines both the text-based chatbot from ChatGPT and the image creation possibilities of Stable Diffusion into one handy mobile app. This is very clever and opens up a whole new set of possibilities.
Poll: 61% of Americans say AI threatens humanity’s future
The results of this poll are no surprise. Artificial Intelligence and its possibilities are hard to grasp, especially when lots of people don’t have a tech background and/or just read the headlines. It will be interesting to see how AI companies will try to build up trust and how lawmakers will try to come up with regulation on AI. (Ars Technica)
Workplace AI: How artificial intelligence will transform the workday
I’m prompting a lot these days, basically to get ideas and inspirations - but this is obviously just the beginning of a development. For lots of workers this will mean unwanted change, while others will embrace AI as it makes their workday better. (BBC)
Cybersecurity faces a challenge from artificial intelligence’s rise
Cybersecurity is on the rise and the threat-level will be increased even more due to new possibilities of AI. As Cybersecurity is a cat and mouse game, we will see both sides ramping up their capabilities by using AI based tools.
Why We’re Launching a Tom’s Hardware AI Chatbot
This is a very practical version of an AI based chatbot. The data comes from tons of reviews at Tom’s Hardware and it gives you results that you could also get by using the good old search, but this is so much more powerful. (Tom’s Hardware)
From horrific jokes about dog sex to ruining Succession: AI’s terrible attempt to write TV
Let’s hope that the writers’ strike doesn’t last too long, we don’t want the studios to hire some PromptNinjas to come up with great screenplay and funny dialogues. (The Guardian)
